Capitalism & Degrowth
Decolonisation and capitalism are intrinsically linked, as capitalism emerged and expanded through colonial conquest, resource extraction, and forced labour. The global economic system continues to reflect these colonial hierarchies, with wealth accumulation in the Global North relying on the exploitation of labour and land in the Global South. Decolonisation challenges these structures by demanding economic sovereignty, reparations, and alternative systems that prioritise justice over profit. Degrowth aligns with this by promoting economic models that centre community well-being, ecological sustainability, and post-extractive economies, disrupting the colonial logic of endless accumulation.
